Our cardiovascular surgery and bio-engineering laboratory, is interested in three areas of research:
1. Biomechanics of Adult Heart Valve Disease
2. Cardiac remodeling to heart failure
3. Pediatric cardiac surgical therapies and interventions
Our primary affiliation is in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Joseph P. Whitehead Department of Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine, and the Carlyle Fraser Heart Center at Emory University Hospital Midtown. We have a program affiliation with the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Petit Institute of Bioengineering and Bioscience at Georgia Institute of Technology.
CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH AT THE INTERSECTION OF SURGERY AND ENGINEERING
Treatment of cardiovascular diseases with novel surgical and interventional devices is rapidly growing. Our interdisciplinary laboratory at the interface of surgery and engineering develops new therapies for valve disease and heart failure (engineering/surgery), and understands their impact on the natural history of the disease (physiology/medicine). Our research program trains students and fellows in discovery, development and clinical translation, providing a wholesome training platform.
