Our laboratory works at the interface of bioengineering, cardiac surgery and cardiology, with an emphasis on applying engineering mechanics to understand the pathophysiology of cardiovascular lesions, and use biomechanical principles to develop new therapies that can be used by the interventional cardiologist or cardiac surgeon to treat patients with diseases of the heart, valves and vessels. Our emphasis is on rapid translation of concepts from laboratory to patient.

We recruit post-docs and research fellows via the Department of Surgery in the Emory School of Medicine, and graduate students from the BioEngineering and Biomedical Engineering graduate programs in the joint Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory and Georgia Tech.
