Our cardiac surgical research laboratory studies mechanisms and develops therapies in the broad areas of adult valvular heart disease, heart failure in valve disease, and pediatric cardiac surgery. We identify clinical problems through our close collaborations with surgeons at Emory, and use bench and pre-clinical animal models to develop new mechanistic insights, devices, materials or surgical techniques. We validate these concepts in our lab and translate them back to the patient.
Our lab is primarily affiliated with the Carlyle Fraser Heart Center at Emory Hospital Midtown, and the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery in the Emory School of Medicine. Our secondary affiliation is with the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Petit Institute of Bioengineering and Bioscience at Georgia Institute of Technology.
